Independent School of Art

Last night Max and I went to slew of openings in the city. First stop was Adobe Books where my friend Brittany had her first solo show in San Francisco. She transformed the back room into an installation about her home state of Oregon. This was done with the same materials as her MFA show - contact paper on the wall, which she then cuts out from. It was very detail oriented and humorous. It was very hard to take pics of this work because the room is really small, but it was amazing!

Second stop Jack Hanley. Ginny is in a small group show of video work. There was her strip pole video and a series of large prints from the piece. Her work was the strongest work in the show, by far. Max took this great shot of Ginny, Ashley and I. (two of my favorite artists)

Last stop was the Independent School of Art, which Jon Rubin started this summer. They held an evening event titled 'Show and Tell'. An event in the San Francisco community by 30-40 people from all walks of life how did a show and tell in their 6,000 square foot space (formerly the Hayes Valley Market, now the home of an art gallery and the Independent School of Art). Much like the Antique Road Show, but in reverse, each participant had their own station where they did a show and tell to audience members throughout the night. In addition, there was a main stage with a live video simulcast where participants did a show and tell broadcast throughout the space. My friend Susan is taking classes with the school this summer.

It was an amazing event, with more to see and hear than we had time for. The event ended at about 10pm, and there were still loads of people there.

This woman did a show and tell of her girlfriend Val.
