Bad Karma
On the 4th of July weekend (Friday) I went to the movies. I saw Me and You and Everyone We Know. It was good, and really funny. After the movie I went home and straight to bed. The next day I realized my wallet was not in my bag. I called the movie theatre, which isn't far from my home, and raced over there to look for it. My film was the last one of the evening, and they hadn't started playing anything yet for the day. So I had a good chance of finding it. But I didn't. I was so sad.
Apparently the janitors never found/turned anything in, and for days I called the theatre hoping someone would have it, but they didn't... Did I mention I was so sad yet? The wallet itself was really beautiful - my brother had bought it last November as a birthday gift for me. Inside the wallet was: a collection of really good fortunes I've kept from chinese dinners; an iron-on patch of a Keith Haring angel that Max gave to me ten years ago; an awesome drawing my brother did; wallet size photos from my wedding; a lucky penny. The list is long. Not to mention all the credit cards, my license (FIRST PICTURE I'VE EVER LIKED!!), health insurance card, social security card, art museum membership cards... It seriously sucked balls!
It's almost 4 weeks later and all the necessary things have been replaced, but I am still devastated that no one mailed my wallet back to me. I know that my address is on my license, and I imagined someone taking the cash and sending the rest on to me. Fat Chance. Whoever has my wallet will suffer some seriously bad karma. The lesson in all of it is not to get attached to your things. I have been walking around with all my wallet stuff in a small (and very ugly) floral pouch. I finally broke down today and bought a new wallet. I walked over to Chinatown and bought a Prada knock off. For $17.

I am sure we can find you a lovely new wallet that will carry you through many more good years. In fact I am almost sure we can find you something some time soon. We can also spend many more happy, healthy, and love filled days filling the new one with memento’s and keepsakes.
I am so sorry this happened to you Lori. There's something about a woman and her wallet. However....getting a message like you did from your Brother is almost worth going through this ordeal. I would give me eye teeth for such a message.
